Laser cut Hinge Test

Image
A rather neat design appeared on Thingiverse recently ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:12707 ). By strategically cutting wood it is possible to make lots of thin strips in a lattice that can be used to actually fold the piece of wood in half. These guys are using it to create a notepad with a cover. I decided to cut a small test section just to demonstrate the principle while I look at the things I want to use it for.

Rune Sticks for Tree

Image
The next job for my talented friend   These are the base for Rune sticks, I believe he will use his pyromancy (soldering iron) skills to burn some rune shapes into the rectangle box on each stick.

Zoetrope design

Image
Nottinghack run a cartoon club every other week and they were investigating zoetropes so I whipped up a laser cutable zoetrope design for them. I also posted it on Thingiverse

Spiral attempt No2

Image
This was the second shot at the spiral pattern, this time it was a lot simpler/quicker to draw in inkscape and convert across to a laser cutting pattern. It also looks better too as it uses spiral sections instead of circle sections. ( svg here )

Spiral attempt No2, spiral detour.

I started looking at the egg pattern again and thought I could better it. I came up with this little doodle that I thought I'd cut at the same time.

Cutlery Candlestick

Image
My final piece for Halloween is a cutlery candle stick. I really wanted a candlestick on the dining room and I hope you'll agree it set off the table well. I headed off round the shops looking for something suitable and cheap, I found some forks and teaspoons in the pound shop and with a bit of creativity could see how to turn them into a candle stick. I laser cut 3 disks to hold the cutlery together, each with a hole just large enough for the handles. This tight fit keeps the whole structure pretty rigid, then some bending of metal to form shapes to hold the candles.

Moose head jewellery stand

Kim wanted something to hang her jewellery from and I remembered seeing this on Thingiverse so I cut one out for her.
